Is this site suitable for civilised society?

I am very upset at the moment… I’m giving you fair warning right now that I will end up offending someone, somewhere, with the content of this entry.

Senator Conroy says some internet content is simply not suitable in a civilised society.

The Australian government has put out a media release today announcing that they’re pushing forward with their efforts to censor the Internet. The release titled as “Measures to improve safety of the internet for families” basically states that whatever content that falls under the “Refused Classification” listing in this country will be blocked nationally through every ISP in this country.

To put it in simpler terms: If I load videos of the new Aliens vs Predator game onto this site (whether it be hosted locally on this server or from YouTube), then this web site, or at least that specific page would end up being put on the filter list. The reason for this is because the game has recently been refused classification in this country due to another related issue that I have talked about on Twilight Lynk for quite some time now.

(UPDATE: Aliens vs Predator has since been re-rated to MA15+ in its complete and uncut form.)

Is this web site suitable for civilised society? Whether it is or is not is not the issue, what is the issue and what I absolutely HATE is that the determination, if the government has its way, will no longer be left to free thinking adults themselves. “Australians all let us rejoice, for we are young and free” my ass… in this respect we’ll become no different to China, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Those mother fucking white withered and dry cunts, who have been elected into power (by a lot of people who are now regretting it over many different issues), need to be anally raped repeatedly with a cactus.

Yes, I object to Internet censorship, as you may or may not have gathered. I feel my rights as an Australian are slowly being chipped away. The justification for these measures is that it’s to help protect our children. As far as I know, children in this country don’t actively seek out child pornography, bestiality, depictions of rape, etc… those who do are 99.9% of the time adults who most likely happen to know various ways around the filter to begin with.

I love how our government knows that there are uneducated masses it can manipulate with fear mongering. I can feel safe knowing that the Australian government is protecting me from those Aliens… and especially those Predators… the chains are slowly being bound one at a time and the people in this country are letting it happen.

Protect your children. They should be allowed to grow up as free thinking citizens who are able to make their own choices, whatever they may be… even if it means that they’re exposed to some of the more disturbing elements of society.

Merry Christmas, and a happy New Year you bastards. I leave you with this to think upon.

Thats bullshit man so basicly you wont be able to sho anything to do with games? *grumbles* you think they wanna be the hitler or something
lol no, it hasn't gotten anywhere near as stupid as that... yet.
Fucking ridiculous.

That is all.
If and when this stupid idea happens I look forward to that 8 year old child the media always digs up that somehow always gets around it.

And no, this site should be cast away into the depths of whatever so no sane person (if there are any left) can see it
INTERNET NEUTRALITY!!!

(^ hey i didn't want that to 'actually' work )

*goes to add that to Kookee DOT Wheres the Beef DOT Sea Oh DOT j00 Kay *

I often ask myself whether or not these protest groups everyone sets up to try to combat Internet censorship and supporting an R18+ rating, etc, actually makes any difference. There's lots of barking but no bite...
yeah, but seriously

what YOU NEED TO DO LYNK

...is send them a letter that's states:

"I run and administrate a website that brings in international attention to it. Between full members and those whom read the blogs that have written and link them onto other sites! Further more, if I am not able to administrate my own web site of it's content as it is now and in the future due to government regulations, I feel as if my own personal rights are being violated extremely. It is my website and I will administrate it as I see fit, and I will not allow the government tell me how to do so otherwise."

or at least that's what i'd send em.... >.>
Writing a letter would make me feel something for about a minute or so, but it won't get results.

Does some old guy sitting in some cushy chair in Canberra care about my rights and how they're going to be violated? Of course not.

They'll rape my freedom like an old, fat, disgusting paedophile will rape some 8 year old, head pressed up against the ice cold wall, eyes glazed over, silent and defeated. (Disturbingly poetic eh? ...) These people don't care about our rights. What matters to them is the illusion of safety they give certain groups so that those groups vote for "the right people"...

heh.

start a petition for the next sets of elections where NONE of the people whom are in office today won't be after the next election.
Actually, funny thing about that... the current government has the gall to actually call an early election down here.

But about petitions, especially Internet petitions... ugh, since when has a single petition ever done anything for anyone?
sounds like it to be that the topic of this discussion should've been IHMFC part ##
Surely parents can use a web filter in their home if they are concerned about their kids online, this is way too far for a government to go.

The news media here would just do a feature on how young children can get around them easily and how that isn't good enough, plus it would be too much effort for the parent to put the thing on the computer.

The government actually had a free PC level web filter that people could download from a government web site which does basically what this national web filter does but is purely for those who wish to use it.

I personally thought that it was a really good idea having that option for people... but apparently it wasn't good enough for certain family groups who have that mentality where everyone should be like them... ugh x.x

10 bucks says the media is going to do a story about how young people can get around this national filter as well...
Columnist: R18+ Paper Meant to Distract from Web Censorship | GamePolitics

So here's something interesting. I haven't mentioned it here yet, but the discussion paper for the R18+ rating was released not long ago after being blocked so long by a certain Attorney General I've mentioned quite a lot in the past in previous IHTFC entries ... Anyway, some people are wondering if it was only released just so the government could distract people from the whole Internet censorship issue... which sounds about right coming from this government

Funny thing is that the reason I haven't mentioned the R18+ thing here is because I don't think it's THAT big a step forward which is why I haven't written a blog entry about it. On the other hand i think Internet censorship is a HUGE step back which is why this entry exists... I guess I'm too clever for the government

(UPDATE: Aliens vs Predator has since been re-rated to MA15+ in its complete and uncut form.)

Hooray, new AvP gets in, but L4D2 never had a chance despite the game is pretty tame compared to a lot of uncut MA15+ games... well, whatever.
If some woman were unfortunate enough to have my spawn, suffice to say I would teach my off-spring how to find free porn on the internet ASAP.
I say we should make her watch tentacle porn.
@ mav: Yeah, cause you know they're gonna do it themselves, plus you want to lead them to the places that don't end up fucking up your PC with viruses, adware and malware... plus it'll save them a lot of moneys cause who pays for porn these days?
that is absolutely fucking rediculous *grabs unused computer box* gonna make a proxy, bitches aint gonna be hatin on my interwebz now
heh, we should all :P
well theyre really easy to make, just gotta have a spare laptop or some old desktop computer
In an attempt to sound pretentious and up my arse, I'm instead going to keep this plain and simple. Where the fuck is my liberty?

As an avid user of the internet and believer of freedom of speech, this shit has pissed me the fuck off. I have always supported the American Bill of Rights because of the freedom it ensures. Next thing I know I find out we have an "implied" freedom of speech clause in the Australian Constitution. Yet we have mostly uncensored prime-time television especially when Rove was on Channel Ten however, prime-time television in the US is censored to the point that it's ridiculous.

On Rove you can literally say "suck dick" at 9pm on Australian television, yet in the US on The Late Show with David Letterman you cannot even say "shit" or "bastard".

All I'm saying is, is that we have been a pretty free-going country when it comes to censoring film, television and music. So why must we take such a step back on what Australia is all about and censor the internet? This time it's the internet, next it's video games even further, then movies and more...
or say fire in a movie theater :P

well i dont think theres really much that can be done to stop it, can only get around it, they reckon the system is real flawed to the point that even the simplest proxy could get around it, but since it isnt even implemented to test such a thing, i wouldnt have a clue, also with a bit of digging, i found out that after a couple months of testing, someone leaked a list of around 1000 websites that was put on the blacklist during a trial, and half of those sites were clean, legitimate websites, just goes to show how much the government thinks about these decisions

True all this crap is, is a vote grabbing stunt.

I bet after they get the votes they want the whole thing gets quietly pushed aside

Prime-time TV in the US is to the point of where you have to be so politically correct, you're politically incorrect for trying to please everyone over everything. That is, if you can get past the medias' slew of "Everyone's an enemy of the state" after they trip over themselves in the process of kissing Obama's feet.

And shame on you for saying liberty! Didn't you know that died like... a generation ago? (*clearly being sarcastic, fyi*)
Oh yeah, here's a bit of a preview of Aliens VS Predator showing why the OFLC initially refused classification for it... A video explanation of why Aliens vs. Predator was temporarily banned in Australia ...I can't believe they got this through as MA15+ and Left 4 Dead 2 had to be edited. Such bullshit.

I guess it really does matter how much money the company is prepared to bribe with...
Right on. They call us paranoid for wanting our freedoms and liberties to remain intact? Proponents goad us that we're unwilling to pay for our liberty? Hm, I thought the price of freedom was to protect it. Strange.

Nah, you are well within your right to be pissed off. And I back you on that. Once freedoms are gone, is it possible to get them back? Not within a human lifetime--or barely, I'll wager. Forget reasonable time-spans. Not even considering the fight that will be on your hands for it.

Ironic how all these filter measures are actually just isolating people more than actually making them secure which you pointed out with how indiscriminate they are about blocking sites. (Not that security is *actually* guaranteed anywhere on the net anyways. ) Still, some of the things really make you scratch your head.

There are so many more things I'd like to rail on about but I'm afraid are only barely relevant to internet censorship. Fuck censorship. I thought it was patriotic to protect freedoms, not destroy them?

Ah, the wonderful parade of the imminent move to control the internet and tax you for every little thing you do. Considering IRL how police punish the victim in cases of perpetrators that fled and got away from a victim who was trying to defend him/her self...I can just imagine what will happen once this head-up-ass style of management and law enforcement take over the internet.

Interpol: "Did you tell this hacker in a threatening tone to 'knock it off or they'll be sorry'?"
Citizen: "Uh, yeah."
Interpol: *SMACK!* "We're going to have to write you up for threatening and trolling."

Ridiculous.
