Thank's Microsoft... for yet another faulty product!

#1 | 20 October 2008, 3:58 AMOld
last night while playing over Xbox live my screen suddenly went all screwy and had vertical black bars all over the screen.

well after restarting my 360 several times all seemed good, and i decided to leave it for the night and try again in the morning... well this morning I turned on my 360 and guess what...

you guessed it Red Ring of Death.

I have had my current 360 for a grand total of ten months.

Fortunatly the store i bought it from has a 1 year guarantee on all their products, so I can exchange it for a replacement unit.

So how many 360 owners out there have a similar story.

By exchanging it will you lose all your saved games and download content? It takes longer (like 2 weeks) but I think if you sent it to Microsoft you won't lose anything. Anyways that sucks, good luck with the new one.

Yeah, I've heard from friends and lots of people on the net that the vertical black bars are a sure sign your 360 is gonna RRoD on ya... it's like an omen of death XD

Right now only one of my friends has a 360 and that's cause he's a pretty hardcore Microsoft fan... the rest gave up with trying to deal with their RRoD issues x.x

I want a 360 too, but I'm so afraid I'll get RRoD'd...

@ Jeff: He should be right if he keeps his hard drive...

I wont loose anything, I just remove and keep my current HDD and they just take the one out of the new box and put it in with the faulty console.

Besides I know of a lot of ppl have sent their consoles to Microsoft to have them fixed, only to have them come back even more screwed up than before.

I saw a video of a person using towels to overheat their Xbox 360 when it had RRoD'ed and then it worked again afterwards

It's depressing really, though it certainly seems the season for it with all the reports I've heard of it recently. Hopefully my warranty will still be good when mine dies, gawd, I hate that I even have to say "when" on that. My N64 STILL works, it's positively that a console should be so unstable.
So, have you heard?

if ya want the facts, the fact is that the type of solder used to hold the GPU chip on the Motherboard is a very brittle type of solder that breaks off when it heats up too much, also, the latest Xbox's use smaller chip sizes, something like 65nm chips which somewhat make it a bit cooler, they only downside on xboxs is that the cooling fans are stupidly designed, and dont shunt out enough air, if i didnt have a warranty of my 360, id be replacing the stock fans with my own fans that do a better job, and be running a 12V rail switch to those fans to switch between 5V and 12V

It's funny how Microsoft can't seem to manage to put together a decent console no matter how hard they try.

You have the PC in disguise Xbox and then the 360 with the most stupid design flaw known to humanity.

This is why I don't have a 360, most games that come out for it that I'd be interested in, either eventually find a port to the PS3 or are also on PC.

The problem is that the 360 versions of most of those games end up running better than the PS3 versions. It's a sad truth.

For most games it has been true, but for me personally not by a big enough margin to force me to buy a 360.

Ok i am now in the same boat as my fellow xboxer dama, my xbox two died after a total of 8 months. Right after an awesome deadspace boss battle of all the fucking times to die on me. I got the black bars same as dama but i didnt get red ringed i got one flashing red light which means hardware failure so off to the game story to get new one >.>

seems to be my bad luck with sony and xbox lately i should stick to the wii at least it wont break.

I'm hoping to buy a 360 elite really soon if I can get the money in time for the deal they have going at EB Games where you get an Elite + Halo 3 + Mass Effect + LEGO Indiana Jones + ...ugh, Kung Fu Panda for the price of an Elite by itself.

But I'm also so afraid that it'll screw up so I'll have to get the whole insurance thing with it as well, bleah.

EDIT: Ahck... the promotion is already over... well then fuck that.
