Yeah, the interception fire is a nice feature I thought. Especially when your guys are doing it to the enemy. There are many times where I've set up my team in such a way where I've been able to take out most of the enemies by them just moving into the line of fire of my scouts and shock troopers. Saves you a lot of effort when your turn comes up XD

And yeah, I was so pissed when Isara died *cries*

They really didn't think through the whole ranking system though... I mean, most missions when you get down to it can be finished in 1 turn... in fact, ALL of the skirmish missions can be finished in 1 turn as well. Even on hard mode. So then all of your strategy really amounts to how you can get your scout to capture the enemy base in 1 turn...

About interception fire, Lynk you probably know already, but just in case someone else missed it the "Sight Lines" tell you if an enemy can see, and shoot you. The color of the sight line indicates their "attitude" towards you, blue means they don't see or know about you, tactically this means that if you shoot at them they have zero chance of evading. A yellow sight line means that they see you, they have a chance of evading. A red sight line means they can see you and that you are in range of their interception fire. I might have missed a color... don't remember

I've become so accustomed to characters with similar roles dieing in RPGs that as soon as I saw the save file picture for Chapter 11 I was 99% sure she was toast, especially since she carries no affect on gameplay, no Potentials nada, it was the "easy" character for them to off.

Yea, they could have varied the A ranking requirements, like making killing enemy aces a requirement or something like that. Nevertheless, its not like you can't make your own self-imposed rules, sometimes I try to beat skirmishes with only Vyse . I can't wait for the DLC to come out for this game, I know there is already DLC in Japan revolving around Edy, and I think I read something about DLC about Selvaria. What I really want is to be able to recruit Cpt. Varrot, I think she'd make a good sniper.

Yeah I know of the sightlines since it's already on by default. It's kind of hard to miss as well since the game explains what they are to you directly.

Well yeah, it was pretty obvious that she would die, but the fact that she did still isn't any less meaningful.

Not sure if there's Code Geass fans, but I loved the fact when I heard Jun Fukuyama's, Lelouch Lamperouge's voice actor, voicing Maximilian. I knew who he was when I first hear him. Plenty of other familiar voice actors and actress.

Like Zaka is Zoro from One Piece share the same voice actor.

Alicia is Kana Minami from Minami-ke and Yoko from Gurren Lagann. All three share the same voice actress.

It goes on, but so many familiar voices. I might check the English voices after I finish my first playthrough.

Oh, I love the fact that a lot of the English voice cast have all played characters in Last Exile. That in itself is made of pure awesome for me since in my mind Valkyria Chronicles is like a strange mix of Fullmetal Alchemist + Last Exile.

I'll try to pull up a list of who voices who... a lot of the voice actors in the English version are my favourites.

Valkyria Chronicles - English version voice cast
Welkin Gunther
Dave Wittenberg
I can't believe I couldn't notice it until I looked it up but he also plays Mullen Shetland in Last Exile! For me that is pure win!

Isara Gunther
Laura Bailey
One of the interesting characters she plays is Lust in Fullmetal Alchemist.

Alicia Melchiott
Colleen O'Shaughnessey
Her most notable gig is Sora Takenouchi from the first two seasons of Digimon. She does a hell of a job as Alicia too.

Brigitte "Rosie" Stark
Hedy Burress
She hasn't done much, but she has played Yuna in FFX. I liked he in VC though.

Largo Potter
Fred Tatasciore
Not much to work on from here, but he was great in VC, that's for sure.

Zaka
Steve Blum
Oh come on, now who doesn't know who Steve Blum is? He's such a champ! I mean, this is the guy who played Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop, Vincent Alzei in Last Exile AND Mugen in Samurai Champloo!

Eleanor Varott
Julia Fletcher
Not much to go on here...

Faldio Landzaat
Robin Atkin Downes
He's been getting some great roles lately... I'm sure it has a lot to do with him playing Travis Touchdown in No More Heroes too.

Irene Ellet
Kari Wahlgren
Another one of my favourites... she plays Lavie Head in Last Exile.

Cordelia gi Randgriz
Kate Higgins
Eh, I'm sure others are interested in her...

Maximilian
Matthew Yang King
He was brilliant as Maximilian...

Selvaria Bles
April Stewart
Who? you ask... Cartman's mum... that's who... and many other female characters from South Park. Amazing isn't it... she's pretty damn good in VC as well.

Radi Yaeger
Patrick Seitz
He's done quite a few animes, though most of them I haven't seen. He's pretty kickass either way.

Berthold Gregor
Roger L. Jackson
He's been in quite a few videogames...

Maurits von Borg
Dwight Schulz
If you don't know who he is there's something wrong with you

Additional voices
Candy Milo
Chris Edgerly
Cindy Robinson
Daniel Sexton
Grey Delisle
Jack Fletcher
Kathryn Feller
Liam O' Brien
Massasa Moyo
Megan Hollingshead
Nolan North
Quinton Flynn
Roger Craig Smith

There are a lot more characters than that, I know, but that's all I can list so far.

Yea there are times where the English voice acting for games makes me cringe, but barring maybe one or two instances of that the voice acting in this was pretty superb. I'm a pretty big Naruto fan, make fun if you must , so I definitely recognized some voices, especially Wittenberg, but also others like Quinton Flynn. I'm a fan of Flynn's work he's Raiden in the MGS series, Axel from Kingdom Hearts, and I think he even played Reno in FFVII:CC. I did not know Selvaria was Cartman's mom though... lol what a milf

Bah, there wasn't any time that the English voice acting made me cringe at all... the script did, but the voice acting itself was supreme.

And yeah, I know who Quinten Flynn is, it just got tiring to list down who was who after awhile.

It tends to be scripts that make me cringe when it comes to English voice acting.

Yeah, though I find that it's when they try to directly translate Japanese lines that does it... For example: "I will protect you".... the only time you hear that is in something that's been translated from Japanese.

The times when they do actually take the liberty to change around the script enough for it to make more sense to a western audience is when you get some of the really great lines though. Especially when it comes to some of the more broad vocabulary characters like Prime Minister Borg and Maximilian. I don't know about the rest of you, but I loved the scenes with those kinds of characters just for so I could hear all that "classical speak" lol.

EDIT: Another thing I liked about the game is that it, like Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, tackled racism. Valkyria Chronicles went about it by comparing the Darcsens to the way the Jews and Romani (Gypsies) were treated during the period before and during World War II. Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn on the other hand focused more on slavery and even the issue of interracial relations... either way, these kinds of games are rare so I like it when I do come across a game that's not afraid to tackle such things.

That's what I meant, that some of the lines were cringe-worthy, not the performances... I didn't really make myself clear, my bad.

Wasn't "harshing" on you for not including more descriptions, was just stating he's one of the people I recognized right away.

Just reached Chapter 15. I'm currently doing a number of optional missions that unlock after Chapter 14. The first two are not difficult involving Alicia and Varott, but having trouble with the optional mission during involving Welkin. Not that I can't defeat the mission, but to defeat the mission with a rank of A.

I really want to see some DLC which gives you the chance to take control of Squad 1 and Faldio... that'd be so awesome. I mean they're already giving us the opportunity to experience some battles on the Empire's side with Selvaria... it'd be cool to see what kind of missions Faldio experienced in his campaign and how they tied into the main story.

Only person you known of Squad One is Faldio, isn't it?

Isn't the downloadable content already on the disc? I remember reading about downloadable content Disgaea 3 is already on the disc. You just can't use it until you have the DLC code, which you download.

Just to add on to my previous post. Mission 14 was easy, if you position your Welkin and Zaka are the right spot where the two tank reinforcements appear. Then you can kill both tanks when they spawn after you capture the base. I only manage to obtain a rank of B. Even though I ended the mission in 4 turns. That tip about the tanks mortars are irreverent. You should finish the mission before they get a chance to even use them.

Yeah, but there is the possibility of adding more characters to the game and to also use units that you haven't assigned to Squad 7 to be recruited into Squad 1.

I'm pretty sure it's not because they had to bring back the Japanese voice actors to record new dialogue and stuff. I mean, most the DLC will most likely use the data already present on the Bluray disc but will feature the new voice acting and instructions on how to compile all the necessary resources in the downloaded content itself.

EDIT: It's really disappointing how badly this game is selling x.x Last I heard it's just barely coming up to 200,000 units worldwide. I wish more people paid attention to it *cries* I really want to see a sequel.

That'd be pretty cool, imagine taking to the scope to take down Alicia. The top 2 things on my list would have to be what I think I mentioned before, but making Varrot recruit-able to your squad and being able to take on the job of Welkin's father. However, the Varrot thing wouldn't really fit into the story and taking the role as Welkin's dad is more prequel material than DLC material.

The thing I'm really waiting for puts the onus on Sony more than SEGA though, I'm eagerly waiting for the firmware update that adds screenshot functionality, I want to snap me some good screenies of Vyse and the rest of my crew, Cherry, Ramona, Fressia ...

You sure that the 200,000 units is the worldwide count? I'd imagine that the sales in Japan alone would be greater, but regardless I do think more people need to check this game out. I tried to convince a couple of my friends to pick it up, but the stupid FPS jockeys don't want to. I want a sequel, or at the least a game of the same motif to be made as well. I think that the amount of DLC and the fact that an anime based on the game is being made are both good signs that the game is being recognized though. Still I haven't seen a commercial for the game, yet I see commercials for some horrid Sonic titles all the time. Don't get me wrong, I loved Sonic, I had a Genesis but there hasn't been a really good Sonic game since then, but I digress, back to Valkyria Chronicles and its awesomeness.

Yeah, I'd like to have Varrot as a recruit-able character. Having an entire game dedicated to EW1 would be even better though... if they did, they'd probably have to follow at least two different squads at the same time. One part of the story would follow the campaign that Welkin's father leads while the other part tells of the story of Varrot, Fredrick and Largo. Also, as I said before, a great sequel would be to find out what happens with Jaeger and the liberation of his country.

No, the Japanese sales are only around 150,000 units so far..

I loved the scene where Valkyria Alicia fights Selvaria... that was so awesome XD And the nuke scene was pretty damn awesome too.

Oh and in chapter 7, the one where you take down the Batomys: Selvaria was trying her best to kill Claudia, but Claudia just kept ducking every time she attacked XD lol. I love Claudia, she's so cute.

I thought Varrot would be playable during her optional mission. She's would be a sniper if she's playable. If I remember correctly, she was a sniper during EW1. I don't believe it's out of the question if she's playable, but she would need to be piloting a tank since she's a captain.

Chapter 7 had to be one of my favorite missions. Selvaria killed a good portion of my army, then remain ideal for a turn or two before resuming her attack. Still, I enjoyed that mission. Too bad the next time she appears, you can end the mission during the turn she appears or a turn later.

I'm currently on the second mission in Chapter 15. Selvaria machine-gun is hailing bullets down upon my party. I'll likely take a crack at the mission later today or Monday.

I stop using a number of characters. I don't even use all 10 characters. I don't even place all 10 characters on the map half the time. I tend to stick with Scouts and Shocktroopers. Both groups can take tanks down from behind when I give them order to boast their anti-tank power. I tend to stick with these groups due to their movement. Lancers are just fall behind most of the time. I use snipers and engineers when needed. The tanks take too many command points up. I barely use the Shamrock. In the end, I tend to just use Aika, Alicia, Rosie and Vyse. I only summon Largo for more command points.

I love the flamethrower dealing with those bothersome enemies that a crouching. One hit kill with Empire's flamethrower. Empire's weapons tend to lack the range. They are much stronger than Gallia's weapons. I tend to stick with range and accuracy weapons. I find the statistic lowering weapons useless. I only find them useful in defending situations. Majority of missions don't ask for defending, but attacking.

I finished my 2nd playthrough earlier today, went through getting all A ranks for the story and sidequest missions, so basically all I have to do is the skirmishes on Easy and Hard and wait for some DLC next year, it'll be fun. But I had to share an epic Vyse story about the final battle...

Basically I did the last mission with pseudo-Valkyria Maximilian in 1 turn and used 6 CP, went a little something like this... Marina snipes the furthest power tower, and then Largo takes out the 2 close ones. I take Rosie, do a little bobbing and weaving, dodging interception fire and proceed to unload on Max. I take Lynn and do the same thing only she teams up with Rosie to do double the damage. Then it is Vyse's turn to shine, I take him, repeat the dodging and set-up to do a triple team on Max with Rosie, Lynn and Vyse, that barrage takes ole Maxy down to a sliver of health, and just when I think I'm going to have to chase him down with my Scouts... Vyse's Double Attack Potential activates and finishes Max off, it was a pleasant surprise.
