It's a traditional RPG by Mistwalker. Mistwalker is made up on former employees of Square-Enix. It's rather new despite being around for 1 to 2 years. Still, there's only five titles to the company's name.
Moving along, Lost Odyssey does nothing different from other RPG's. What makes it appealing is people looking to return back to playing a traditional RPG where you have HP and MP. The enemy and yourself act once per turn. It's quite a standard game with a generic plot. Nonetheless, it's a good title. If you like Final Fantasy titles before FFX, then this game would be to your liking. If you want RPG with free movement and choice, it's not exactly the RPG you're looking for.
Also, Nobuo Uematsu, famous composer for the F.F. titles, composed the music for L.O.
