The Official Macross Thread
This is one thread that I thought should have been
brought over to this site from C3F. This thread is the place
to discuss anything Macross-related.

After finishing Macross Frontier, I've gone back to watch some
of the older Macross series like Plus and SDF Macross. As I watched
more and more of them, I've come to regard Frontier as a major disappointment.

From my perspective, here are the pros (+) and cons (-):

(And I will give Lynk credit for pointing some of these out)

Pros:

+ Good mecha designs
+ Space backgrounds are alright at best, bad at worst.
+ Good to see some Zentrans/Meltrans in macronized form.
(While we're on this subject, the Zentradi mall was a nice touch.)
+ Music is decent.
+ Liked the dark tone of the second part of the series.
+ Liked the battles.

Cons: (Dun, dun, dunnnn)

- Didn't like the character designs. Some of them way too feminine.
(To me, Klan as a loli in Miclone form just screams out the word "pedofile".)
- Too many homages to other Macross series.
- Couldn't gravitate towards The fairy-tale-type ending.
- Plot too predictable.
- Didn't like the way Leon was handled. Would have liked to have seen him get shot to death after killing Kathy's dad.

Overall: I was excited when Frontier was first announced (as in "ZOMG AWESOME!"-excited), but after finishing the series and going back to
watch some of the older series, it's fairly safe to say that I will be pessimistic whenever a new Macross series is announced, because Frontier has kind of given us an idea of what to expect. *Sigh*

However, I will give the movie a chance, despite the possibility that
it may be little to no different than the TV series. Who knows?

Just finished Frontier last night. Definitely enjoyed it a lot, though I didn't care for some of the turns it took during the last couple episodes. The last episode kind of redeemed it, but I didn't like how wide open it was left with regard to Alto, Sheryl, and Ranka.

I thought the music was one of the best parts of the series, I am in love with the vocal tracks from Ranka and Sheryl.
