November 19th, 2008 is the 10th anniversary of Half-Life. It's been ten years since Valve released its first game which went on to take the modding community by storm and spawn a number of completely new experiences that have forever influenced the first-person genre. The game itself was both a critical and commercial darling but for many people, Gordon Freeman's debut adventure was only the beginning of their Half-Life experience. After so many years, the game still tops the popular charts on ModDB for good reason. Valve has drawn strength from its boundless community of modders—almost half of their original IPs have been formed from the ideas of students and amateur developers that Valve have brought into their fold. The following is a list of mods that managed to make it into the big leagues courtesy of Half-Life
[edit]Opps, they only post a top 5 ^^;;[/edit]

oh yes, each 'level' of alien has their own 'perks'

but for what i think you're looking for is the basic one 'skulk' (you spawn as this) has the ability to crawl on walls and ceilings, mainly for gerrilia warfare. it can shoot 'parasites' where it makes that marine, or structure visual to all the rest of the aliens, so that everyone knows where that is (until they die of course)

the gorge is the 'builder', make structres that help out give abilities to the team, and make more 'hives' (up to three per map, which give more abilities on completion)

lerk's fly and spit out acid clouds that eat up the marines

fades zip in smack marines, and zip out, heal then come back.

then the 'onos', they're big, mean, and eat other players whole. (literally, and they get 'crapped out' XD)

the marines side get weapons and armour upgrades, jet packs, heavy armour. drop turrets, get motion sensors and the like.

the only thing about the marine weaponry, it doesnt use the CS style of projectile aiming, its more like, spray and pray, type. but you get a bit of weaponry to use: LMG's, HMG's, SG's, Gren Launchers , and your trusty pistol, and if needed, a combat knife (which if you'd use mainly out of desperation cus of reload times... )

Awh, the marines don't have an extremely short range, shorter than the range of the alien with the least range, high dps melee weapon for taking out structures?

well, aliens are mainly melee, with a couple of things. mainly minor until the shit hits the fan

its not really a thing about range, cus that usualy never comes into factor because the majority of the maps are close quarters
