Having fun with crappy AI and glitches

For a lot of people, crappy AI can be the sign of a bad game and glitches are an indication of a rushed and badly coded game... but then if we didn't have these, we wouldn't be able to have fun playing with these little quirks XD

GoldenEye 007
I was talking about this with a few friends of mine not long ago. I love the AI in GoldenEye, it's so classic. You can get some hilarious results from shooting enemies through glass while you're in another room.

You shoot them in the hand or anywhere else that won't kill them and they'll start running around looking for you. The problem is that they can't detect you because you're in a different room and the door is closed, so they continue running around until they stop. But they don't just stop anywhere, they and up stopping while they face a wall, and they'll just stand there starring at the wall until you shoot them or kill them again.

Metal Gear Solid
Playing with the guards is MGS used to be so much fun... "There's nothing here"... yeah XD Nothing there... except for Snake standing right in front of you about 5 meters away lol.

Howabout you guys? Got any funny stupid AI and glitches you wanna tell/remind us about?

Splinter Cell
in one of the splinter cell games, you would hide in the shadows or in bushes ect. the patrol guard would come by, go right upto your face and say "nothing there" and walk off

Half-Life 1
with some troops in Half-Life 1, you would shoot them and they wouldnt stop running around until you moved at least 5 meters in Game length

Flatout 2
the computer/AI in Flatout 2 would go stupid if you were using the batmobile car and you rammed their car right off the track

Garry's Mod 10
If you spawned a combine NPC without a weapon he would follow you everywhere, which would cause a problem due to the fact that if multiple Combine NPC's were spawned and you ran into a corner you would get stuck unless you killed them

Star Wars: KOTOR 2
There is a glitch to duplicate lightsabers as well as lightsabers crystals, there is also another glitch where you duplicate Lightsaber crystals that increase the power/damage of your saber, then you could stack the bonuses on the lightsaber, after which you cannot remove the crystals after doing it

Not exactly a glitch but it's a funny story. I wasn't playing this but I was watching my friend play it when I was at his house many years ago. He was at the level where you escape from a cell and then free Natalia so she could help you escape the place while you have to protect her. My friend had completed all the tasks and was near the end of the level where she set up a missile to destroy the place they're escaping from.

There was a time limit to get out of the area before the missile struck and he was running towards the exit door to complete the level. The only problem was that Natalia was running in front of him and was blocking the exit XD, he couldn't get out at all no matter what he tried and with the time ticking he just shot her in the back and said "get out of the way bitch!". He finally got out of the area only to fail the mission after all the tasks he completed because of shooting Natalia XD.

Every so often, I like to fire up my old Dreamcast and play some games on it. There are some pretty fun glitches in a couple of those games:

1. Sonic Adventure- you can get Tails, Knuckles and Amy Rose into the first Sonic level on Emerald Coast (even though they aren't supposed to be there), using a glitch in the doors by the pool. The developers didn't close up the geometry, so you can jump into the roof, onto the doors, and then into the scenery, which allows the player to get into the level.

Unfortunately, they can only do the first half, as the last half of the level is totally glitched. In the Japanese version, there were several other levels of Sonic's that they could get into.

2. Jet Grind Radio- nothing really special, but if you jumped just right in certain areas, you could fall through the world.

Oh, I remember a good glitch in XCom: Terror From the Deep. Every so often, an alien would try to launch a disruptor pulse weapon up an elevator, screw up, and blow himself and his comrades up. That was good fun. Another good AI trick was when an alien would walk back and forth to see your troops until his time units were too low to take a shot.

Starcraft and Warcraft III AL scripts where nothing to be impressed by, but what can you do? I never understood why Warcraft III script makes sure the Orc would only build two heroes, even if the game is a long match. Then there's another script where a Human AI will never develop beyond a Keep. You figure out AI patterns fast in both Starcraft and Warcraft III, but like I said, the challenge comes from fighting human players.

I prefer playing with the crappy IA rather than human players, they suck more than the AI in I'm my opinion, I mean, unless you played with known people, you would usually get totally beaten by the experienced players, that's why I stopped playing CS in LANs or online, cuz getting a headshot right off the bat isn't fun. Or playing Tremulous, their players are a bunch of elitist bastards that even annoys the Tremulous' developers, I also stopped playing Starcraft on battlenet, I always got Zerg rushed after a few min, dammit, I don't mind losing, but I want to have some fun, not a game that's just a few min long.
And the IA won't try to kill your real body if you lose his unique sword in a MMORPG game.

M4v,

It made up for all those shots from the dark that kept happening. Another good one was hearing a door opening and closing over and over again in the distance. Time it right, and you'd get there with the alien facing the wrong way.

A game glitch in TFTD was the corner glitch- sometimes you'd get up near a corner just right, and could see aliens inside a building or UFO, and sometimes even take shots. The shots only would get through if you were right up against the corner, however. Aliens that tried this trick normally shot from some distance away, and only managed to either hit the side of the sub, or hit another alien.

I've got some screenshots showing Amy and Tails in Emerald Coast- I took them using my video capture card. It's pretty easy to get Tails in, Amy is a bit harder, but not much. I don't know if this glitch works in the GC version, but as you can see, it does in the DC one.

Assuming anyone plays or is interested in Sonic games anymore, of course. The series has been rather spotty in terms of quality lately.

Pretty much everyone who cares about Sonic is hoping Sonic Unleashed will turn him around and back in the right direction.

Yeah Sonic Unleashed looks awesome but Sonic games haven't been the greatest recently so here's to hoping.

As "real" as they tried to make GTA IV... they really should've spent the majority of their time actually upgrading the AI... From the looks of it, the AI in GTA IV is even more stupid than previous games.

YouTube - GTA 4 police AI
YouTube - GTAIV - Cop AI improvement
YouTube - GTA4 The AI of liberty city
YouTube - gta iv glitch AI doing circles around car

I just remembered a glitch on Tomb Raider III on a demo disc I use to play where it was set in the level Area 51. Somehow I managed to make Lara appear to fly even though it was actually her swimming movements whenever she'd be underwater. I made her grab and hold onto the edge of a big cupboard before pressing some buttons (can't remember it now) and the next thing you saw was Lara floating up in the air lol.

This actually made it VERY easy to clear the level as all you had to do was fly over objects and enemies while you also had the ability to shoot at your enemies as you did this XD. I remember laughing a lot the first time I did this.

More like funny.

Then there's glitches like in Chaos War where one character's special attack can't be used due to a programming error, at least that's the theory.

Stupid AI's
In Oblivion you can kill off one enemy in front of a group of others and they do nothing as long as they cant see you, heck there could be a room full of bodies and the remaining AI's just walk around like everythings fine.

AI's In the Halo Games... nuff said.
