Interesting ways to keep you cool...from the heat...

We're currently having a heatwave over a couple of days down here in Melbourne, temperatures over 40 degrees have been forecasted over three days and we're currently on our second day.

I always wondered what kind of interesting ways people can come up with to keep you frying from the sun or being boiled alive at home.

For me, Homer's idea of building a tent just outside the fridge was very interesting XD. I wonder if that has actually ever been attempted before though.

XD Yeah, but I'm sure you remember that the fridge motor died not long after...

Right now the current temperature is OVER NINE THOOOOOOOOOUSAND! and I'm stewing in my own juices x.x

Apart from the air-con, I find turning nocturnal to be a good source of fighting the heat.

I wish I was in Melbourne right now.

I hate our cold climate.

How about we swap you some of our heat for some of your cold.

I know you're prolly using Celsius, but we here in Rochester NY could use a 40 degree day... in Fahrenheit

I don't like Fahrenheit either, I don't get why the US doesn't use the metric system like everybody else... So I've been learning the temp in C, so I know what it's like outside when I see the temp in C, but when people ask me "so what's that in F" I don't know the conversion.

The equation is F = (C*1.8)+32, but being a pilot, we use the weather reported in Celsius as well so if you're looking for a quick "rule of thumb" conversion just double the temp. in Celsius and add 28-30 and you should be relatively close.

e.g. C=40º
F=(40*1.8)+32 ---> 72+32 = 104
RoT--> F= 2*40 = 80 + 28-30 = 108-110, so you can get pretty close

Pilots use some weird math, worldwide we use Celsius for temperature, but for some reason, the ceilings (start of clouds) as well as Flight Levels (commonly flown IFR altitudes above 18,000 ft.) are reported in feet, and visibility is reported in statute miles or feet. Airspeed is reported in knots (nautical miles per hour) or Mach (relative to speed of sound). However if you fly in Russia all that is thrown out the window because they use their own system .

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, to keep cool you could try wearing light colored clothing so that you don't absorb as much direct energy from the light of the sun

It was found long ago that to change all of the roadsigns in the UK would be too expensive... or something.

That's apparently the reason why they still use miles instead of kilometres.

YOu won't feel sorry if youre here in the Phil. The only way to make public transport free if the capital in submerge in a 4 ft. flood.

I took advantage of that free public transport today since I had to go to work in the afternoon. It was good working in a well air-conditioned place but not so returning home just now.

There must not be much ventilation at my home since it's still rather hot and I'm sweating even though the temperature has already cooled down outside. I even left the window open before I went to work but it seems that my house likes to trap the heat inside and takes awhile for it to cool down .
