Yeah, that was one of the craziest episodes ever. I remember the episode preview at the end of the episode before it where it was just him laughing constantly all the way through it XD lol.

So yeah, general rule is that you have to watch a few of the starting episodes of the anime to actually get a good gauge of it, not just the very first.
Ah, indeed. Didn't really think of it that way.

Another thing that usually puts me off anime shows is the animation itself, which is sub par at best. Especially shows like DBZ (does it even count as an anime show? ) make my eyes bleed.

Some shows might get a little more creative when they have low budgets though XP (Evangelion Episode 25/26 XD)

Animation quality does vary depending on anime. Dragonball Z was made in a time when it was common to cut a few corners, plus it was a TV series so they ended up working on a tight schedule. Most anime nowadays is of pretty high wuality and they they've managed to streamline things to get the quality up.... so then all you have to worry about now is if you enjoy the art style of the anime in question or not...

You see the problem with anime at the moment is while they've gotten the quality up, there are a lot of animes which all share that same generic style... cookie cutter animes I call them. However, there are certain shows like One Piece that have their own style that is unique and which I really do appreciate seeing.

@ mav: Exactly.
