Awesome... Metroid prequel ftw. Thoughts?

I heard that Team Ninja was teaming up with Nintendo for something quite awhile ago. Didn't expect it to be Metroid... looks like they're combining traditional side scrolling Metroid action, the first person perspective stuff from Metroid Prime and also some melee/brawl stuff from... Smash Bros.

Nice mix... but will it work? Looks like this one will be heavily story based from the looks of the trailer which'll take it further from the series roots... still, if it works for them in the end... can't wait to see if it does.

Actually I was kinda hoping for a Metroid game that'd do this, combine sidescrolling with first person... I'm pretty sure I talked with Jeff about it ages ago.

One thing I have a problem with though is that I never liked Team Ninja's style when it comes to motion capture...

Okay so here's how it goes...

Metroid Zero Mission (and the original Metroid on NES) was the first game. The comes Metroid Prime and then Metroid Prime Hunters, though I don't think Hunters is explicitly canon... then comes Metroid Prime 2 Echoes and Metroid Prime 3 Corruption. Then finally, Metroid II Return of Samus and then Super Metroid... and finally Metroid Fusion. Last three games are all in a row with no gap between them.

Metroid: Other M is said to be set between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion.

Metroid Other M - F By F by GVvideos

Ignore the bit where he says Samus' leg is clipping into the boss... he's wrong XD Also the "other Samus" thing is disproven already as well.

I must say, my jaw dropped when I was watching the livestream of the conference. =D

I guess I will not be selling my Wii after all. <.< I really enjoyed Metroid Prime 3, it was one of the first games I bought for the system, and I played it all the way through, and got most of the collectibles. It will definitely be interesting to see what the mash-up team of Nintendo and Team Ninja can do with the franchise.

Yeah, I never owned a Gamecube, so I would love to play the first two, especially with added Wii controls. In fact, I'd be hard pressed to think of a game that employed the Wiimote better than Corruption.

Same for me, MP3C was the first Metroid Prime game I had played, so getting the trilogy only makes sense for me.

As for Other M, I think it looks great. Will definitely be keeping an eye on it, and will be interesting to see another dev take a shot and see if it can be as successful as the Prime trilogy.

I'm also interested to see what Metroid Dread turns out to be... maybe it'll finally be that sequel to Metroid Fusion everyone has wanted for so long.

a sequel to fusion? i wonder how that happened considering it seems like there's no where to go after that story, or i don't have an imagination about it

Well yeah, there is a huge sequel after fusion...

By the end of Fusion Samus realises that the Galactic Federation is becoming as dangerous as the Space Pirates themselves and are trying to use the Metroids for their own devious purposes. Samus basically went against the Galactic Federation for the first time to stop this. Of course it's not known whether the Galactic Federation government supports these experiments in secret or if it's a rogue organisation within the Federation itself... but in the end, Samus has caused a top research facility to be vaporised and has taken out SR-388 with it. She is now a fugitive.

Also, just because Zebes was destroyed in Super Metroid doesn't mean there aren't any more Space Pirates. Metroid Prime 3 Corruption introduced us to the Pirate Homeworld.

Plus there's still a lot of mystery to the Chozo... so much stuff going on after Metroid Fusion hence why everyone wants a game set after it.

I thought Other M was a movie when I first saw the trailer, so I guess I have no excuse not to have a Wii now.

Bring on the mid year sales
