For some reason Hillary Haag (BGC 2040's Nene - English version) has started to grow on me. I have no idea why. Most of the 2040 cast I seriously liked and I find it incredibly hard these days to say I truly liked a dub. In fact, if you killed 2040 Sylia off completely and replaced her with her 'Lingeries Office' counterpart then I think you'd have a more "wholesome" show. I'm rambling again...

Seriously though Hillary Haag has hundreds of animation and film dubbing credits to her name, not counting those under aliases. Gotta respect a hard workin girl.

I think in the long run this is going to run into the age old "dub vs. sub" debate. There are plenty of very good english voice actors, but also plenty of straight horrible ones as well. That being said, if some of you know some Japanese phrases and common sayings you'll be able to pick up on some equally bad Japanese acting as well.

While the ratio of bad English to bad Japanese dubs weighs heavier toward the former, the latter isn't entirely innocent.

I have not heard a recent English dub that sounded good, they've all been terrible, contrived and out of place for the most part. There are a handful of good English dubs out there, but they're the exception, not the rule.

So in order for there to be a "handful" of good ENGLISH dubs there has to be voice actors that are considered good that contribute to the dub. So in effect you've just said that good voice actors do exist.

No, I haven't. A good dub does not logically imply good English voice actors. It could easily be a good effort by a group of mediocre voice actors e.g., Cowboy Bebop.

Yeah I agree too, I just couldn't resist saying Rogue_Nine. Not heard very many good English dubs recently.

English Haruhi makes me want to choke myself... and not in the sexual way.

Yeah, Wendee Lee did Haruhi in English and she is like 50 or something, wtf. She also did the voice on Konata in Lucky Star.

She also did Faye in Cowboy Bebop. One of her better roles, but still not enough to make her a 'good' voice actress, especially considering her efforts on Haruhi.

Actually, I've noticed that they've scaled back English dub production over the years... I was even talking to darky a few weeks ago and he's telling me that many US companies are just stopping it altogether and simply doing subs and distribution for a lot of series... as for what's gone on lately with newer series and their English dubs, I wouldn't know since I gave up on buying anime.

Also, when it comes to high squeaky Japanese schoolgirl voices... that just cannot be emulated by anyone who hasn't actually been a Japanese schoolgirl with a squeaky voice...

yeah even I, whom have been watching alot more subbed anime lately, am starting to like the Japanese Voice acting a little better then the english counter parts. But it doesn't mean I dislike english dubs anymore, I enjoyed the English Dubs of Code Geass, DeathNote, Yuyu Hakusho, Zone of the Enders, Kenshin/Samurai X, Cowboy Bepop, etc.

But now I used to watch English Dub's of Bleach and FMA (for examples), and I am enjoying the English Sub's alot better.

Im watching Gundam 00 on youtube (yes english dub)

anyone else watched that version?

am I the only one who thinks that the guys doing the sunrise voice dubbing seem a little 'lack' of voice actors for that dub?

I could swear I think there is at least two maybe three characters voiced by Brad Swaile (Light Yagami, DeathNote dub) (i could be wrong, cus apparently according to wikipedia that there is no doubled characters for one voice actor, but I know that there is a few out there that use pseudonyms)

[edit]

him, and Scott McNeil (he did Duo Maxwell in Gundam Wing dub, at least he is labeled as doing two roles in gundam 00)
