Haha, hadn't heard of Sexy Poker before. The Australian government just doesn't make sense to me. I know you will use this against me but look at America, sure there are a couple well known cases of videogames (allegedly) causing people to go nuts and shoot up the block, but videogames are so prevalent that that is such a small percentage and the same thing could happen with movies or music. And it's not like we are lenient on M games, hell 2 weeks ago when I bought Fable 2 I was carded to see if I was over 17 and I'm 20 and look even older.

Lynk, you should move to America in protest.

That's your solution to everything... "move to America" lol.

I'm not sure that in the end the governments efforts will have any real effect. They're TRYING to block a lot of things, but so far they haven't succeded at all. It's just really stupid that they're spending all of this effort on censorship that just does not work at all. They think they can control the Internet and what Australians can view. The problem is that there's a million and one ways to get around any filter they could implement for anyone who really wants to get around them.

Such a waste of money and resources.

go find a 6 foot rubber dildo and tape it above the front doors to the head branch of what ever department is trying to censor everything.

Welcome home, Jack Thompson!

I knew the beatification in Australia was bad, but I wasn't aware that it was to that degree. A question, though: Is this restricted to games or are they trying to block everything sex related?
Like, groovy you dig?

Ah, the UK model. "restrict people until they give in". Works pretty well.
About a maid I'll sing a song,
who didn't have her family long.
Not only did she do them wrong,
she did every one of them in.
So, have you heard?

I thought the UK model is "Blame all knife related crimes on video games"?... or is it both?

Probably both, this is also the country planning to ban the BNP as a party, has installed CCTV cameras in major metropolitan areas, and has police hover-drones patrolling said cities, as well as a seemingly constant stream of legislation restricting people's rights.

From yesterday's (July 1st) Mx newspaper letters column
Quote:
FREE OUR GAMES
As an avid gamer in his late 20's, the Federal Government's decision to block websites hosting and selling mature video games hurts me.
For years, gamers have imported games that are banned or edited. These games have never gotten an R18+ classification and have just been banned. Why? Because Australia is the only developed country that does not have a rating beyond MA15+ for video games. Every other form of media has one, so why not video games?
This is about having our online freedom crushed because some believe we cannot think for ourselves. I think most reasonable adults like me can make that call.

Heh, I caught a bit of Today Tonight a few hours ago and they had this story about morals and all that and how they've evolved over the 20th century into the 21st century... this "expert" they had on that they were interviewing was saying how "Australian viewers are treated as adults who are able to choose what they view" yada, yada... and I facepalmed.
