Do You Remember Macross? The OFFICIAL Macross Thread

This is place to discuss anything Macross, from the iconic original 1982 TV series, to the latest epic, Macross Frontier. The pilots lounge is open while your Valkyries are undergoing repair, but don't worry this is a special occasion. Destroid pilots as well as bridge crew and any pop idols out there are also welcome to chat away about one of the greatest and underrated anime franchises out there.
.
Zentradi are also welcome, just don't bring the war in here with you.

Before I headed off to Fiji, I made sure to upload as much Macross onto my Samsung P3 as possible. I got Do You Remember Love? on there as well as Flashback 2012, Macross Zero and Macross Frontier... I watched DYRL? on the plane over to Fiji, then went onto Macross Zero, then Macross Frontier and finished it off with Flashback 2012... damn was it a great Macross marathon Before heading off to Fiji I had also had a huge marathon run through of Macross 7 TV as well as the Encore, the "movie" and Macross 7 Dynamite.

So much Macross within a period of a month... was so awesome. I can't get enough of it lol. I really can't wait for the Macross Frontier movie which is coming out later this year. I hope it's more than just a movie version of the series cause I really want to see some new stuff.

Also, this was the first time I had watched Macross Zero after seeing Frontier and I really did appreciate it a lot more than I did before seeing Frontier. If you have seen Macross Frontier but haven't seen Macross Zero ( @ Jeff) then you really need to see Zero dammit!

Oh and here's some awesomeness...

I agree.

I have only watched Macross Plus before watching Macross Frontier earlier this year. I adored Macross Frontier and can't wait for the movie. It also peak my interested in the older Macross series. But, my interest is mainly focused solely on games, particularly Suikoden series, so I haven't made much progress with the Macross series or anime in general.

I'll just say that Iteza Gogo Kuji Don't be late is one of my favorite songs I ever heard. I absolutely adore this song.

I am the same as you Eva, I had only seen Plus before I watched Frontier. I really liked Frontier and can't wait for the movie as well. I have a lot to watch on my Macross plate: Zero, DYRL, and the original. Also stfu Lynk I will watch whatever anime I want.

Also, this cosplayer is awesome:

Iteza Gogo Kuji Don't be late is pretty awesome. I also like Welcome to My FanClub's Night!... but the two I really love are Diamond Crevasse and Northern Cross. Oh and Lion and the duet version of What 'bout My Star? are also awesome.

The first Macross series' I had seen was Frontier, but I've been looking for something new to watch since I've had a lot of spare time the past week. Therefore I decided to watch Super Dimension Fortress Macross, the original 1982 TV series, partly cause I was curious, but mostly because if I chose to watch something else to fill my free time, Lynk would have had a bitch-fit.

After watching SDF Macross, I think I liked it better than Frontier, and it was blatantly obvious just how much of Frontier was taken straight from SDF, and I'm sure I'll also see more references to the other series' as I watch them. In addition to SDF, I watched DYRL? and I didn't like the re-imagining of the SDF plot-line that it took, but some of the changes in the characters was nice. notwithstanding the shock value Minmay shower scene

I'm planning on watching Macross Plus and Zero over the course of this week, and maybe Macross 7 later, though, just by reading up a couple of blurbs about Macross 7, I'm not sure I'll like it as much as I've enjoyed SDF and Frontier, we shall see though.

SDF Macross is so awesome. There are so many awesome moments I just love seeing over and over... OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH!! PROTOCULTURE!!~

Also, about Minmay's shower scene... did you forget that they had a similar shower scene in the TV series as well? Plus, when it comes to nude loli in Macross... nothing comes close to Macross Dynamite 7...

...oh and how could I forget the scene involving Mylene and lesbian rape. I kid you not.

So what were some of the best parts of SDFM for you, mav?

Well no but in the TV series it was just A, in DYRL? it was T&A, anyway, I'm not saying it was done poorly or in bad taste, even though it wasn't really necessary. I'm just saying it caught me off-guard a.k.a. I wasn't expecting it.

Hmmm, let's see, any bit with Roy is pure win. The first Daedalus punch, that arcade battle b/w Max and Milia was awesome, though I like their pairing I thought they went about it way too suddenly. The first "final" battle is epic, the one against Boddole, not the actual last battle of the series. All the "culture" references the Zentradi made, from "OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH KIIISSSS!!!" to Kamjin, "later on you and me are gonna MAKE some culture" Also Misa > Minmay.

I'm warning you here and now, mav... since you're a pilot... never even think about eating Pineapple Salad or even have Pineapple chunks. Pineapple cake is safe, but Pineapple Salad will kill ya! It took down Roy and because Klan was feeding Pineapple chunks to Mikhail before he died...

The Daedalus Attack is so awesome XD and so rediculous... but somehow they make it work. Also, I also found the Omni Directional Barrier to be really cool too, especially in the episode Burst Point where it just wiped out EVERYTHING. That episode was so epic... "KAKIZAKI!!"

As for Max and Milia, if you want to know what happened to them, then watch Macross 7... pretty much the best parts of Macross 7 involved Max and Milia lol. Oh, and when you get to the end of Macross 7 you will rage. Basically it's

Big bad guy: "Yay, I can sing now so I'll stop invading your galaxy, bye, lolz"

Also, yeah, I loved the final battle... it's something that Macross Frontier ripped off and twisted pretty heavily lol.

I love seeing how much the Zentradi have changed over the years... I mean, just look at the difference between the warriors like Kamjin and Britai (he is so god damn awesome ) to... the farmer Zentradi on Frontier XD lol.

As for Misa nad Minmay, I'd choose Misa over Minmay too, as does everyone else, but I do give Minmay some credit in the end. She did begin to mature though of course, it was much too late for it to do any good. Once you watch Macross Flashback 2012, I'll talk more about Minmay and explain a bit more...

Oh and also, Roy > Ozma.

Yeah I'll watch 7 eventually but not right now, I've been downloading HD versions of Frontier, so I'm waiting for those to finish it's been at least 2 weeks now, slow ass torrent.

Anyway, after having watched Plus and Zero, I will say that I definitely liked Zero more, I mean Zero has Roy so really it's no comparison. Zero's story is definitely batshit insane, but so is Plus'. Zero is more far fetched and alien bullshit, but the problem with Plus is that I found none of the characters to be likeable. Guld is a mix-race raping asshole, Isamu is a cocky, ego-centric jerk-off, and Myung, yeah she got raped, but she's still just a whiny bitch. Wait do I need to even spoiler tag Plus, I'm the only one that hasn't seen it right...

Anyway, Zero wins for a few reasons: 1. Roy > All 2. F-14's 3. Edgar is the best Goose ever 4. Epic battle scenes 5. Tie-ins with the other series 6. Boobs. Oh Plus definitely had the best 3 or 4 lines of exchanged dialogue though between Isamu and Yang...
As Isamu and Yang are entering the Earth's atmosphere
"You should trust my skill" - Isamu
"Skill has nothing to do with this. This is purely a question of luck." - Yang
"Luck is just one of my many skills." - Isamu
Anyway, Zero is still better overall though.

@ mav: Without Roy there'd be no likable characters in Zero either XD ...and the character relationships are a lot more complex than that.

Speaking of Plus though, it's pretty interesting when you think about the YF-19 and YF-21.

The YF-21 requires so much control that few pilots are even able to fly it and they're only made by request to be given to top ace pilots (for example, Mex in Macross 7 lol). On the other hand the YF-19 is a fighter where if you try to control it, it'll kill you... which is why the pilots of the YF-19 all killed themselves before Isamu finally hit the scene... and that's why the VF-19 was an inferior ship compared to the prototype and why neither of them were mass produced.... they were just way too specialised for their own good.

I like where they've gone with the whole YF-24 concept though. Just one basic evolutionary design that is transmitted to all fleets and each fleet takes the design and create's their own VF series out of it just like how Frontier created the VF-25 Messiah and the Galaxy fleet created the VF-27 Lucifer.

I also love comparing the size of the VF-0 and VF-1 series. The VF-0 is so HUGE compared to the VF-1 XD I dunno why, but it's so cool.

Oh and I'll post picks of my VF-1A when I get it though the pics will be crappy quality cause my camera phone sucks... or maybe I'll borrow my mum's iphone and take it that way...

That's true, though I was talking more about main characters that actually matter. As for Shin, I'm not a fan of him... in many ways he's as bad as Isamu for different reasons, though Isamu is the skills.

Also, with Frontier establishing that Mao Nome lived on after the first space war, she must have been on South Ataria Island when the Zentradi attacked and then became one of the refugees on the SDF-1... it could be possible that after the Anti-UN forces attacked Mayan Island, the survivors were relocated to South Ataria... cause with the bombardment of Earth,, there's no way they would've survived if they were on the surface.
