I enjoyed the pilot. Obviously, it felt like a first episode, but I think it has potential.

The characters are interesting, for the most part. I like Rush and Eli. Both seem like they could be interesting characters, though Eli seems more like the "comic relief." Still, I think both actors play their parts well and could make the characters interesting and fun.

What I really love about Rush is that you don't really know if he is a "good guy" or a "bad guy." I loved the scene when he was trying to console Chloe Armstrong. You didn't know if he was sincere or just trying to make himself look good. He definitely has that "mad scientist" feel about him, but does he have a heart, so to speak?

I also like Colonel Young. Though the pilot focused a lot on Scott, Young is the lead military officer. I'm curious to see if Scott becomes the lead away team guy, while young stays on the ship even once he is all healed up. Either way, I like that they went with a more "refined" commander instead of the same O'Neill/Sheppard thing. O'Neil and Sheppard were great, but they already did the irreverent leader thing twice, so a more stoic leader is a nice change. Plus, I think it can lead to some good drama usually missing from the franchise.

Some of the characters seemed a bit superfluous. Chloe Armstrong had a good part in the pilot, with some emotional scenes, but it's hard to see where she will fit in with the crew. I hope they can make her relevant and not just eye candy. It's just hard to imagine where she will fit in, but I hope she does...

Anyway, I'm interested to see where the series leads.

I've gone through all except the last 2 eps of season 1 of SGU... it's... well they're trying way too hard to be new Battlestar Galactica. It's painfully obvious too and it's really annoying. It has no sense of fun that I've come to expect from Stargate... about the only time that fun comes in is when O'Neill and/or Daniel Jackson are in the episode.

Meh @ the cliffhanger... it just proves my point that they're trying to be way too much like Battlestar Galactica... plus I betcha some really stupid thing is going to save them somehow, or some kind of coincidental thing.

I still think these show pales in comparison to SG1 and SGA, but I think it was ok and i'm sorta enjoying it. I continue to see comparisons to BSG, and BSG is still better IMO. The first episodes of season two was interesting, but nowhere close to being as good as the last three episodes of season one.

I'm finally watching what's been released so far of season 2... man, it takes such a long time for anything good to happen... you can see why this series was cancelled... I just hope whatever happens at the end of this all is worth me watching through all of this to get to it.

At least in a couple of weeks there'll be an episode that has David Hewlett and Robert Picardo in it... that'll be interesting.

I'm sad the show is canceled, but only because it's Stargate... The show itself? Not so much. I thought it had potential early on, but it never really went anywhere.

I like the idea of upping the character drama a bit, but they went way to far with it. Way to far. They went to eleven, when six or seven would have been fine.

Eli probably disappointed me the most of all the characters. I thought he had the potential to be the fun character in the show, but he just wound up being the stereotypical nerdy guy. He was funny in the show's premiere, but then became the nerd-that-can't-talk-to-the-girl-he-likes-but-can-sure-make-some-unfunny-Star Wars-references-that-the-writers-though-would-be-hilarious-guy.

Oh well... hopefully this doesn't kill the franchise and they can try again and actually make it a Stargate show and not a ripoff of Battlestar Galactica.

Yeah, a lot of what made previous Stargate series so good is that they kept a sort of off-beat humour all the way through it to lighten things up when necessary. That's what Stargate was, it was a a science fiction show about the people of today going through what only happens to humans in the future or in a galaxy far, far away... and having fun at that.

There is no fun in SGU, only serious business.

lol, I'm watching the commentary for the extended version of Air on Blu-ray and David Blue (dude who plays Eli) is awesome... I mean, he's a true geek who watches sci-fi shows and knows his pop culture just like we do because he watches everything we do.

He was also in Moonlight - Moonlight (TV Series 2007–2008) - IMDb

It wasn't the greatest show ever. Unfortunately, it aired right as the writers strike was heating up, and you could tell the show was affected. It has some fun stuff though, and I actually liked it. The cast was really good, too, but suffered from Lucas Syndrome. Which, is my personal name for shows/movies that have good actors, but for some reason, if that was the only thing you saw them in, you wouldn't think they were very good actors. I'm sure you see where the name comes from. :P

David Blue was Mick's (the main character) go-to-guy for tech stuff. Imagine Eli as a Vampire living in a basement and playing Guitar Hero... only actually allowed to be funny.

Speaking of commentaries, I love to listen to them myself. My favourite Stargate commentaries are the ones with Peter Deluise and Gary Jones. Peter Deluise is hilarious, he pretty much just goofs off the whole time. Gary Jones was Walter Harriman, who was in a lot of episodes, but never had many lines. It was funny at first, because he was pretty much like "Why did you want me on commentary? I only say one thing in the whole show."

So yea, if you like commentaries, I definitely recommend those.

XD Bob, I was a fan of Stargate from the very beginning when the original movie came out and the start of SG-1 years later. I have everything released so far on dvd (and blu-ray)... and yes, i've watched/listened to every commentary tracks for every one of the episodes and movies ever produced.

HOWEVER... I'm not that big a geek that I'd watch/listen to them again.
