Game Spotlight: Super Street Fighter IV

#1 | 27 May 2010, 11:02 AMOld
Hey guys! Just thought I’d share with you my thoughts on Super Street Fighter IV. I’ve been a fan of Street Fighter way back in the day so I was really glad to hear about the release of Street Fighter IV, but even more excited when they came out with SUPER Street Fighter IV.

Capcom has managed to create new characters for the series such as Hakan and Juri, but have also brought fighters back from older games such as Adon from the original Street Fighter and Ibuki from Street Fighter III. The game itself is pretty awesome, its lush art style, stages and the characters show how much Capcom love their Street Fighter fan base.

Well, I guess all I can say is that you should all give it a go. It can be good for beginners, but is still challenging for the hardcore players like myself. I have clocked almost seventy hours on the game which probably shows how much I love it. I hope you guys will all consider purchasing it so I can fight you online sometime soon!

I kinda question that whole "it's easy for beginners thing"... I mean, I've never known Street Fighter to be an easy game... and I hear Super Street Fighter IV is much harder than the first version.

To be honest, I've thought about buying it but I'm too scared of getting my ass kicked by everyone XD

I suck at fightan games so I don't really buy any. The last two fightan games that I got were BlazBlue for my PS3 which I got during last summer's lull in gaming, and FF: Dissidia for my PSP. BlazBlue was extremely entertaining for the 20 or 30 hours I played it and Dissidia is unlike any fighting game I've ever played, but in a good way. Anyway as far as Street Fighter goes, I probably wont ever be getting it, the last Street Fighter game I played was II for my Genesis and I had a turbo controller so I just made Blanka? go into electrocuting ball mode.

I used to play fighters more back in the day when it was 2D instead of 3D... these days the only fighter I've played is the Soul Calibur series... and even then not much time is spent playing those.

Well... let's see... Street Fighter has made a triumphant return with IV... Soul Calibur seems to be going strong... on the niche front there's King of Fighters XII... Mortal Kombat is dead and there hasn't been a good Mortal Kombat game for a very long time.

What else is there? I'm probably missing something obvious...

Beat Um Up and fightan is different though, I wish there was a new like WiiWare/PSN/XBLA Streets of Rage or something, that'd be cool.

I think the main thing that's keeping us from having good fighting games on consoles these days are the controllers... none of them are suitable for fighting games, not even the PS3 controller with the D-Pad in the neutral position since it has analog buttons.

I used to love beat em ups back in the Sega Genesis days. I put so many hours into Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie: The Game.

I have SSFIV but didn't get a chance to play much of it yet, probably put about 5 hours into it just playing arcade modes and challenges. I am definitely no good, but it's fun to start out on super easy and work your way up. Eventually I'll play online but probably only with people I know. I had been playing mostly as Fei Long just because he looks cool, aside from starting out with Ryu to get the hang of it again.

If I do end up getting SFIV, I'll probably end up buying one of those purpose built control pads.

One of these would be awesome...

and maybe one of these for XBLA games...

also to quell some of the rmours you guys may hear, you can win if you play the game using the controller, as per alot off people saying its impposibel to win when you use a controller and they use they arcade stick its a load of B U L L S H I T E.

@ Moel I'll gladly play you at it some time if you want

I'd probably actually rather just use a regular controller rather than get used to a whole new controller just for one game.

SSFIV is still fought on a 2D plane, just with 3D character models. I like this format better than fully 3D fighters like the Soul Caliburs, simply because it makes pulling off complex combos easier and I don't have to worry about my character circling around my opponent instead of doing what I want him/her to do.

And the 360 controller is perfectly serviceable for playing against friends, there's no need to splurge for another controller simply for SSFIV. You just need to not suck at pulling off simple combos like Down-->Right-->Fierce Punch.

And Lynk, if you do want to spend the money on a fightstick, don't get the standard version as they're flimsily constructed and will probably break on you. Spend the extra cash and get a Tournament Edition stick, because they're built better and won't fall apart on you 10 battles in.

Well, to be honest, I probably never will buy SSFIV to begin with *looks around* I just said that if I did, this is what I'd do. I suck at fighters nowadays anyway...

I may end up buying it later on... MUCH later on when I have money to waste and I find it for cheap second hand like I did with Soul Calibur IV.
