I'm really surprised that there been no mention of the downtime on the Playstaion network. Before I got a PS3 everyone was blagging on how great a console it was, but before the hack on the PSN it seemed to go quiet.

Is there anyone here who uses a PS3 still these days? Have they gone Cold Turkey from not being able to play their C.O.D. games?

Are they so pissed off at Sony they sold their PS3?

Come on someone else tell me what they thing about this, it is a video game forum isn't it?

Well I've been really busy with Uni and no one here has been bothered to post a thread about it till now XD

Anyway, my nephew is a huge CoD whore and he has a PS3... I'm sure he's going through some serious withdrawals right now since when PSN was up, he'd play it every single day every time he was home.

I haven't seen him in awhile, wonder how he's actually doing lol.

Sucks for Sony though... I hear there are people who are switching to the 360 over this which is a big kick in the nuts for them.

Microsoft is sitting back being glad that they weren't targeted this time, and Nintendo is grinning because their system is so anal that even if they were hacked no personal information would be taken because all they do is store credit card receipts for a period of time.

This is kind of the reason why everyone on Nintendo's network are just a bunch of numbers instead of a collection of personal details.

In truth I kinda wondering what it would have been like, if Microsoft Xbox Live had been the one that had been hacked. The reason is this, their customer base pays for their service, so Microsoft would be doing everything more quickly as they wold lose their customer base and their cash flow.
In truth I'm not too worried about my account details, I never used my credit card on it.

And if Xbox get hacked, I buy all my MSN points and Xbox live from my own company

Microsoft's network is probably better thought out than Sony's since it's Microsoft and networking is one of the things they did way before getting into the video game industry. Microsoft based networks are used by a fuck tonne of businesses large and small.

However, Microsoft is just as vulnerable as Sony... no network is uncrackable and it just requires the proper motivation by... whoever... to target a network.

As for how Microsoft would've handled it... I honestly think they would've done a better job at managing it than Sony simply because they've had more experience.. that said, you're right: Since XBL is a paid service it'd be a lot harsher reception for them than what Sony has been through.

PSN is back up in the States now, still no Store, but they've been saying that'll come later since this whole ordeal began anyway. Personally it hasn't really effected me, even prior to the "attack" 99% of my online gaming is done on my PC and most of my PS3 games are single-player affairs. The only thing that really messed with me is that I couldn't link my PSN and Steam accounts to get my free copy of Portal 2 for Steam, but I solved that last night, Yay! I think it's stupid to sell any system anyway, I still have all my old systems, except my N64 which my mom sold without my permission . So yeah, anybody who got rid of their system is retarded.

I'm sure most of the people who traded in their PS3 for a 360 were CoD fans and such who couldn't live with the fact that they couldn't play online for one day.

So yeah, lots of 12-year-olds hounding their parents for a new system.

Truthfully, I didn't know PSN was down until a few weeks ago. I haven't touched the system in a long time because I don't have much for it and most of the games I have is for PC. I think I only have five games on PS3.

you have time to decide, the free swag obviously wont be available until the PSStore is back online and that is supposedly the last step of the PSN reboot.

Nintendo server attacked by hacking group Lulz Security
Model holding Nintendo 3Ds Gaming console makers have been the target of attacks by hacking group Lulz security

Nintendo has become the latest company to suffer an online security breach due to an attack by hackers, Lulz Security.

The Japanese game company said that a server of one of its affiliates in the US was attacked by the group some weeks ago.

Lulz Security is the same group that attacked the websites of Sony over the past few weeks.

However, the maker of the Wii said that no consumer data or company information was lost.

"There were no third-party victims," company spokesman Ken Toyoda said.

"But it is a fact, there was some kind of possible hacking attack," he added.
'Utmost priority'

Over the past few months, there has been a spate of attacks by hackers on the websites of leading companies resulting in the loss of valuable consumer data.

Japanese electronics maker Sony suffered a massive security breach earlier this year when hackers targeted the PlayStation Network and the details of 77 million users were compromised.

However in this case, Nintendo says there was no consumer data stored on the server accessed by the hackers and the company insists it is constantly working to ensure consumer safety.

"The protection of our customer information is our utmost priority," said Tomokazu Nakaura of Nintendo Japan.

"Therefore, we constantly monitor our security," he added.
Well least Nintendo hasn't suspend their service....

Nintendo are a lot more paranoid about their online networks... plus Nintendo's online service isn't unified like Sony's and Microsoft's online gaming networks.

I can't really see what the point of trying to hack Nintendo would be though since they don't really keep any information about their customers on any of their servers. I mean if it was a successful hack and they did grab data, what would a bunch of Friend Codes do to anyone?

Obviously the hackers are actually members of Team Rocket and they plan to use the Friend Codes to steal your Pokémon.
